The mules at Blåvand Beach
The mules on Blåvand Beach Bunkers were turned into work of art. An unexpected sight greets guets on Blåvand beach: four mules looking out over the sea. These mules are remodelled bunkers, affectionately and creatively fashioned by the artist Bill Woodrow in 1995 and equipped with steel heads and tails.

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the second World War a laser chain was created along the west coast of Jutland, supplemented by a range of artistic happenings.
Most of the works of art are gone, but at Blåvandshut it was decided to leave the mules standing with their timeless symbolism: a beast of burden attempting to drag the ugly bunkers into the sea - and a bunker transformed into sterile mule, ensuring that the "monument" can never again reproduce!
The mules can be seen at Blåvand beach, at Skippervej and Lille Strandvej.
